Can I use Elvie Stride while I’m pregnant?

No, if you’re expecting, please do not use your pump until after you’ve given birth.

This is because breast pumping can induce labor.

If you become pregnant while breastfeeding or breast pumping please consult with a licensed healthcare professional before continuing.

Can I use Elvie Stride if I have an implanted device?

It is recommended that you consult with a licensed healthcare professional before using Elvie Stride if you have an active implanted device that would be affected by a magnetic field (e.g. pacemaker, implantable cardioverter defibrillator).

Can more than one person use Elvie Stride?

No, Elvie Stride is designed to only be used by one person.

For health and hygiene reasons, it’s very important that you don’t share your pump with anyone else.

If another person uses your pump, it will void the warranty.

How do I download the free Pump with Elvie app?

How do I clean and sanitize Elvie Stride?

Elvie Stride is not provided sterile. This means it must be cleaned and sanitized before first use.

For additional cleaning guidelines see the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website.

Keeping your pump clean is then a simple but important part of its upkeep.

Cleaning washable components that come into contact with milk as soon as possible after pumping prevents the buildup of dry milk residue. Residue can cause the growth of bacteria that may be harmful to you and your baby.

If you’re cleaning your pump for the first time, remove the Cup Seal by peeling it out of the grooves on the sides of the Cup Front.

To replace the Cup Seal, stretch it over the outer rim of the Cup Front. Make sure it goes on with the ridges facing outwards. Press along the groove, checking that it is snugly in place all the way around.

The Cup Seal only needs to be removed before first use. During normal cleaning, it can stay in place

Put these parts to one side. They are non-washable and should be kept dry. They can be wiped clean with a damp cloth, but not submerged in water. They must not be microwaved.

To clean and sanitize your pump:

1. Start by taking the Cup apart

2. Using the Finger Grips, pull the Cup Front away from the Breast Shield. There is a strong seal between the Cup Front and Breast Shield. This means that it can take a firm, controlled pull to separate them

3. Pull the Valve out of the Breast Shield and then remove the Diaphragm

4. Before you use your pump for the first time, remove the Cup Seal by peeling it out of the grooves on the sides of the Cup Front. The Cup Seal only needs to be removed before first use. During normal cleaning, it can stay in place

You’ll need to clean and sanitize these parts:

Clean these parts by either:

  1. Rinsing in cold, clear water

  2. Washing in warm water using mild dish soap

  3. Rinsing with cold, clear water for 10 to 15 seconds

Do not place the parts directly in the kitchen sink for rinsing and washing. Use a dedicated wash basin for infant feeding.

Or

By putting them in the dishwasher on the top shelf.

You will then need to sanitize them. You can do this by either:

  • Putting them in boiling water for five minutes

  • Using microwave, steam or cold water sanitization

We do not recommend microwave or steam sanitizing for more than five minutes.
If you’re using a microwave or steam sanitizer, please always check the manufacturer's instructions.
When you’re using your pump, please follow this routine:

  • Clean after every use

  • Sanitize once daily

Before you assemble your pump, please make sure all the components are dry.

Do not store wet or damp parts, as mold may develop.

How do I assemble Elvie Stride?

Before you assemble your pump, make sure that the relevant parts have been cleaned and sanitized.

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before touching Elvie Stride and its components. You should avoid touching the inside of the Cup Front and Breast Shield.

To assemble your pump:

1. Start by making sure that all the parts are completely dry, especially the Diaphragm

2. Slide the Hub into the Cover making sure the hole for the Hub Connector is aligned with the hole in the Cover

3. Push the short end of the Clip through the slot and pull it through

4. Push the Hub Connector firmly into the Hub making sure that it is fully inserted

5. Push the Valve into the Breast Shield. Once you have pushed the Valve in, take care not to twist it or move it. Milk can pool in the Nipple Tunnel if the Valve is twisted

6. Use your fingers to work the Diaphragm rim over the Breast Shield lip. Take a moment to check the Diaphragm is sitting flush and is on securely

7. If you have removed the Cup Seal, put it back on. Stretch it over the outer rim of the Cup Front with the ridges facing outwards. Press along the groove, checking that it is snugly in place all the way around

8. Centre the arrow on the top of the Breast Shield between the two alignment lines on the Cup Front

9. Now push them together

10. Check there is a good seal all the way around

11. Check there are no gaps and that the Cup Seal is fully covered by the frosted lip of the Breast Shield

12. Check that the Diaphragm is completely dry. This will avoid moisture being sucked into the Hub

13. Push the Cap into the Cup Front

14. You can turn the Cap when it's in place to get the most comfortable and discreet fit

If the Diaphragm is not pushed on properly, you might find that:

  • You can’t get the Cup Front and Breast Shield to push together

  • You can see the Cup Seal above the frosted lip

If this happens, please remove the Diaphragm from the Breast Shield and push it on again.

How do I charge Elvie Stride?

Keeping your pump’s battery topped up will mean that it’s always ready to go when you need it.

When you’re charging your pump, you should only use the Charging Cable provided in the box.

To charge your pump:

  1. Connect the Charging Cable to a USB power source. It is best paired with a charging adapter of maximum output 5 V / 2.1 A or 10 W

  2. Plug the Charging Cable into the Hub

  3. Leave the Hub to charge

While you’re charging your pump, please keep in mind that:

  • It takes approximately two hours to fully charge depending on your charging set up

  • A full charge last for approximately five 30 minute pumping sessions

  • It will not switch on when it’s charging

  • A red light means low charge and green means fully charged. Amber means your pump is charging

If you want to check how much charge is left, press the Mode button when the pump is switched off or charging.

The Intensity Lights will show you how much charge is left. Each light indicates 10% charge. For example, five lights means that the pump has 50% charge.

Before you use your pump, we recommend closing the Charging Port. This will make the Hub as discreet as possible.

How long does it take to charge Elvie Stride and how long does the charge last?

It takes approximately two hours to fully charge your pump.

This can vary depending on your charging set up. A full charge will last for approximately five 30 minute pumping sessions.

When you’re charging your pump, you should only use the Charging Cable provided in the box.

You can’t turn on the pump while it’s charging. It’s a good idea to charge it immediately if the red light indicates the battery is low.

This means it will always be ready to go when you need it.

What level of suction can I expect from Elvie Stride?

Elvie Stride has a similar range of suction to other pumps on the market. It has 10 different intensity settings which means you can tailor it to be just right for you.

When you use a higher intensity two things happen:

  • The suction gets stronger

  • The pumping cycles get slower

When you use a lower intensity setting the opposite happens:

  • The suction reduces

  • The pumping cycles get faster

While it might seem logical, using a higher setting might not always produce more milk.

While some women find that stronger suction is the best thing for their milk output, others find that faster cycles really get things moving.

It’s best to experiment to find what works for you.

Please keep in mind that pumping beyond a setting that is comfortable for you is likely to have a negative impact on milk production. If suction strength is your thing, always make sure you're within a range that is comfortable.

Will expressing with Elvie Stride be comfortable?

We believe that you should never feel uncomfortable while using your pump.

Comfort is often directly linked to using a Breast Shield that fits well and finding the right intensity settings for you.

Elvie Stride has three Breast Shield sizes and 10 intensity settings. With this level of customization available, we hope that it will be comfortable for most women.

If your pump is still uncomfortable or causing pain, please stop using it and speak to your lactation consultant.

How do I take Elvie Stride apart?

You’ll need to take your pump apart regularly to clean and sanitize it.

It’s important to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before touching Elvie Stride, its components or your breasts. You should avoid touching the inside of the Cup Front and Breast Shield.

When you’re taking your pump apart, start by removing the Cap.

Along with the Hub and the Tubes, the Cap should be placed on a dry surface and kept away from water.

To take the Cup apart:

1. Using the Finger Grips, pull the Cup Front away from the Breast Shield. There is a strong seal between the Cup Front and Breast Shield. This means that it can take a firm, controlled pull to separate them

2. Pull the Valve and Diaphragm out of the Breast Shield

Once you have disassembled your Cup, you may want to clean and sanitize these parts:

Which Breast Shield sizes are available for Elvie Stride and how will I know if they’ll fit?

Every pump comes with a 24 mm Breast Shield attached to each Cup.

Depending on which version you have, you may also have 21 mm Breast Shields included in the box.

21 mm and 28 mm Breast Shields are available to purchase.

We have an easy to follow guide on how to find the right Breast Shield size that lots of pump owners find helpful.

We recommend taking the time to find the best fit possible. Fit can have a significant impact on milk production.

How do I know which Breast Shield size to use with Elvie Stride?

The Breast Shield creates a seal between your nipple and your pump. This means that fit is really important.

Every pump comes with a 24 mm Breast Shield attached to each Cup.

Depending on which version you have, you may also have 21 mm Breast Shields included in the box.

If needed, 21 mm and 28 mm Breast Shields are available to purchase.

Before you get started, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. You should avoid touching the inside of the Cup Front and Breast Shield.

To check your Breast Shield size:

1. Remove the Breast Shield from the Cup Front

2. Remove the Valve and Diaphragm

3. Put the Breast Shield on with the sizing symbol pointing upwards and place your nipple in the centre of the fit lines

4. Check whether the fit lines line up with the outside of your nipple

5. Because no two nipples are the same, be sure to try the Breast Shield on your other nipple

If the 24 mm Shield does not work for you, we have 21 mm and 28 mm Breast Shields that will fit you better. These are available to purchase.

How do I put Elvie Stride on my breast and align my nipple correctly?

Getting good nipple alignment is really important. It’s a key part of ensuring comfortable and efficient pumping.

Good alignment is a very personal thing. This is because we’re all unique and no two nipples point in the same direction.

Before you practice alignment, it’s important to check you’re using the right Breast Shield size.

It can be helpful to practice aligning your nipple in the Breast Shield. Before you do this, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. You should avoid touching the inside of the Cup Front and Breast Shield.

1. Start by removing the Breast Shield from the Cup Front

2. Put one of your hands under one of your breasts and lean forwards

3. Put the Breast Shield on with your nipple pointing directly down the Nipple Tunnel

4. Check that your nipple is not touching the sides of the Nipple Tunnel

5. Take a little time to practice on both sides

When you’re comfortable with this, you can try aligning the whole Cup. To do this:

1. Put one of your hands under one of your breasts and lean forwards

2. Bring a Cup to your breast paying attention to the direction of your nipple

3. Use the markings on the Breast Shield to help align your nipple while you’re putting the Cup on

4. When the Cup is on, you can check your alignment through the Pour Hole. To do this, remove the Stopper

5. Replace the Stopper before you start to express

Do I need a special bra to use Elvie Stride?

No, Elvie Stride is designed to be worn with your standard nursing bras.

The most important thing is how firmly the Cups are pressed against your breasts when you’re using them. We call this ‘compression’.

Getting the right compression can increase your milk volumes.

To get the best results, your Cups need to be firmly pressed against your breasts with no gaps in between. Using your bra’s adjustment straps can help with this.

If you have good compression, you should feel some pressure, but never any pain or discomfort.

Every bra has a different level of support, so make sure to check the compression before each session.

Will Elvie Stride need firmware upgrades?

Elvie Stride is smart. This means that in the future we might add new features and benefits with firmware upgrades. Firmware upgrades will give you access to all our latest innovations.

Signing up for an account in the Pump with Elvie app will give you access to firmware upgrades if they are available.

We suggest that you do this before you start using your pump.

Firmware upgrades will always be free.

How many modes and intensity settings does Elvie Stride have?

Elvie Stride has a Stimulation and an Expression mode.

Stimulation mode is a faster pumping rhythm to stimulate milk let-down. In this mode the pump is massaging your nipple. It’s doing this to let your breast know that it’s time to produce milk.

Expression mode is a slower, stronger pumping rhythm. In this mode your pump is helping your breast to release milk efficiently.

Within each mode, there are 10 different intensity settings. These change how much suction there is on your nipples.

The settings help you to personalize your pump so it feels comfortable and works efficiently in both modes.

Does milk pass through Elvie Stride’s Tubes?

No, the tubes should never have milk in them.

If milk gets into the Tubes it can damage the Hub and cause mould.

To stop milk getting into the tubes, always:

  • Check that the Diaphragm is correctly fitted to the Breast Shield

  • Check that the Cup Front and Breast Shield are aligned using the markers before you push them together

If you ever do see milk in the tubes, you should contact our Customer Care Team.
