How and when do I clean and sterilize Elvie Pump?
The Hub: electronics care
Keep the hub dry
The Hub contains electronics which should be kept dry. A clean, damp cloth can be used to clean the Hub. The black semicircle on the base of the Hub monitors milk volume. Please keep this area dry and clear of residue. Any other cleaning method will be classed as misuse under the warranty.
Washable components
Washable parts
Cleaning washable components that come into contact with milk prevents the build up of dry milk residue, which can cause the growth of bacteria that may be harmful to you and your baby.
Before first use
You should clean and sterilize all washable components before first use.
Clean washable components
Rinse in cold, clear water (approx 20°C / 68°F)
Wash in warm water (approx 30°C / 86°F) using mild dishwashing soap and wipe afterwards with a clean cloth

Boil in water for five minutes
OR
Suitable for microwave, steam or cold water sterilizing methods. We do not recommend microwave or steam sterilizing for more than five minutes. Can I use Elvie Pump without the app?
Using the Pump with Elvie app will allow you to access Elvie Pump's smart features, including remote control, live milk monitoring and viewable pumping session history. You will also be notified via the app whenever there is a firmware upgrade. Firmware upgrades improve the function of your Pump. Some features that have been included in firmware upgrades so far include personalizing intensity settings and the ability to dim the light on the Play / Pause button. We always recommend you use the app so you will be notified of the latest features and get the best out of your Elvie Pump.
How do I know what mode my Elvie Pump is in?
Elvie Pump will always start in Stimulation mode. This is a faster pumping rhythm to stimulate milk let-down. Elvie Pump will automatically switch to Expression mode after two minutes (you can also switch to Expression mode manually in the app). Expression mode is a slower pumping rhythm for efficient milk expression.
How do I end my session?
How do I change the intensity setting?
Elvie Pump has seven intensity settings, giving you full control over what feels comfortable and works most efficiently in both Stimulation and Expression mode. Use the + & - buttons to adjust intensity to find your preferred setting in both modes. When you reach the maximum or minimum intensity setting, Play/Pause will flash three times.
What intensity setting do you recommend?
We recommend you use the highest intensity setting that is comfortable for you. A higher intensity setting does not always mean more milk (in fact, some studies suggest stress can affect milk production) so you should never be uncomfortable while using Elvie Pump.
How do I change a bottle during a session?
Pause the pump, break the seal with your finger and take Elvie Pump out of your nursing bra. Press the bottle release button to remove the full bottle and click the spare bottle into the Hub.

How do I switch sides with a single Elvie Pump?
Each Elvie Pump can be either a left or right pump. The first time you connect to the app the side light will turn on. How do I know which Breast Shield size to use?
To determine the correct size, put the Breast Shield on with the sizing symbol facing upwards and place your nipple in the centre of the fit lines. The fit lines should align with the outside of your nipple.
Try different Breast Shields to find your best fit. Your pump comes with a 24 mm Breast Shield and one other size. If needed, 21 mm and 28 mm Breast Shields are available to purchase.
To comfortably pump on both sides, repeat this process for both nipples to ensure you have the correct Breast Shield for each nipple.
No two nipples point in the same direction so it's also really important to align the Breast Shield to the direction of your nipples when you are putting the breast pump on.
Lanolin cream can be used for lubrication to reduce the likelihood of sore nipples.
Keep the unused Breast Shields in a safe place. Women’s bodies often change during the pumping life cycle, so you may find that another Breast Shield size becomes a better fit.
How do I place Elvie Pump on my breast and align my nipple correctly?
Along with choosing the right Breast Shield it's also really important to align the Breast Shield to the direction of your nipples when you are putting it on. No two nipples point in the same direction!
Getting Elvie Pump on correctly can take a little practice. Until you are comfortable aligning your nipple we recommend you put on just the Breast Shield, without the Hub. Bending forwards and holding your breast from underneath. Bring the Breast Shield to your breast, paying attention to the direction of your nipple. You can use the markings on the Breast Shield to help align your nipple.
We’re all different, no two nipples point in the same direction! Align the Breast Shield to the direction of your nipples when you are putting it on. Use a mirror to check your nipple is centered.
Once you are confident the Breast Shield is in the right place, hold it in position with one hand and push the Hub onto the Breast Shield.
What positions can I use Elvie Pump in?
Generally we recommend sitting or standing because the milk monitoring function in the app will work better if you're upright. However, depending on factors like the amount of milk in the bottle and where the pump sits on your breast, you might find you have more flexibility.
We've had testers unload dishwashers, change their babies and much more - so long as Elvie Pump is functioning properly you can use it in any position you like.
Do I need a special bra to use Elvie Pump?
No, Elvie Pump is designed to be worn with your standard nursing bra. If you like, you can use the Bra Adjuster provided to make sure Elvie Pump fits comfortably in your bra.
Milk volume estimates
The milk volumes shown in the app are estimates.
When you finish pumping, the app will show you an estimate of how much milk is in the bottle. If you need to correct this estimate, you can amend the information when you are saving your session. The pump bottle has volume markings to help you check how much milk is in the bottle.
You can also update these volume estimates at any time from the history screen.
This volume estimate comes from an algorithm in the pump which is getting smarter all the time!
Can I use Elvie Pump if I have an implanted device?
Do not use Elvie Pump if you have an active implanted device that would be affected by a magnetic field (e.g. pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillator).
Can I use Elvie Pump while pregnant?
Do not pump until after giving birth. If you become pregnant while breastfeeding or breast pumping please consult with a licensed healthcare professional before continuing.
Is the Bluetooth safe?
Elvie Pump connects to your phone using Bluetooth. Bluetooth devices are extremely low powered - approximately 100 times less than the maximum power of a mobile phone. It is due to this fact that lots of wireless healthcare and medical devices use Bluetooth. Elvie Pump uses Bluetooth Low Energy, which offers an even lower emission than standard Bluetooth.
