How do I pump on one side with Elvie Stride?

To pump on one side, remove the unused Short Tube from the Tube Splitter.

Seal the opening in the Tube Splitter with the Tube Splitter Stopper.

This will ensure consistent suction on the one Cup in use.

Which intensity setting should I use?

Elvie Stride has a similar range of suction to other pumps on the market. It has 10 different intensity settings which means you can tailor it to be just right for you.

When you use a higher intensity two things happen:

  • The suction gets stronger

  • The pumping cycles get slower

When you use a lower intensity setting the opposite happens:

  • The suction reduces

  • The pumping cycles get faster

While it might seem logical, using a higher setting might not always produce more milk.

While some women find that stronger suction is the best thing for their milk output, others find that faster cycles really get things moving.

It’s best to experiment to find what works for you.

Please keep in mind that pumping beyond a setting that is comfortable for you is likely to have a negative impact on milk production. If suction strength is your thing, always make sure you're within a range that is comfortable.

Do I need to massage my breast before using my Elvie Stride?

This one is completely up to you. Your pump has a Stimulation mode that’s designed to do the work for you and start let-down.

But if you usually massage your breast to help with let-down or expressing in general, you can absolutely continue to do this.

It’s all about what works best for you.

How do I know which mode my Elvie Stride is in?

Your pump will always start in Stimulation mode.

This is a faster pumping rhythm to stimulate milk let-down.

In this mode the pump is massaging your nipple. It’s doing this to let your breast know that it’s time to produce milk.

Your pump will automatically switch to Expression mode after two minutes.

Expression mode is a slower pumping rhythm. In this mode your pump is helping your breast to release milk efficiently.

When your pump is in Expression mode, the light under the Mode Button will be on.

If you ever want to switch to Expression mode sooner, you can do this by either:

  • Pressing the Mode button on the Hub

  • Using the pump control screen in the Pump with Elvie app

How do I change the intensity settings of my Elvie Stride?

Your pump has two modes, Stimulation mode and Expression mode.

Within each mode, there are 10 different intensity settings. These change how much suction there is on your nipples.

The settings help you to personalize your pump so it feels comfortable and works efficiently in both modes.

Your pump will start in Stimulation mode and switch to Expression mode after two minutes.

You can adjust the intensity setting in each mode by using the + and - buttons on the hub while you’re expressing.

The Intensity Lights on the Hub light up to show which setting you’re using.

Please keep in mind that a high intensity setting does not always mean a higher volume of milk. Putting your nipple under lots of stress, or pumping if you’re in pain can reduce your milk production.

You can save your preferred intensity settings for both Stimulation and Expression mode by using the Personalize feature in the Pump with Elvie app.

When you have chosen and successfully saved your intensity settings in the app, start a session using the app.

This will save your chosen intensity settings and they will be ready for you next time.

This will save you having to make adjustments every time you use your pump.

The app is free to download from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

What should I do if I fill a Cup with milk during a session?

Each Cup has a handy fill line. It’s a good idea to use this to check how full a Cup is during a session.

If you notice that a Cup is full, you should pause your session and decant. If you continue to express when a Cup is full, your pump could start to leak.

To decant your milk during a session:

  1. Pause your session by leaning forwards for two seconds and pressing the Play/ Pause button

  2. Unclip your bra if you need to and break the seal between the Cup and your breast using a fingertip

  3. Take the Cup out of your bra and remove the Cap. Avoid getting any milk on the Cap

  4. When a Cup is full it must be held upright, or laid on a flat, dry surface temporarily to prevent any milk loss

  5. Hold the Cup upright and then unplug and rotate the Stopper

  6. Pour the milk out through the side of the Pour Hole into a sealed container

  7. Check that the Diaphragm and Cap are both completely dry

  8. Push the Cap back into the Cup

To resume your session:

  1. Lean forwards and position the Cup back on your breast

  2. Check the alignment by looking through the Pour Hole

  3. Close the Pour Hole using the stopper

  4. Use your bra to secure your pump firmly against your breast

  5. When you’re ready, press the Play/Pause button

What positions can I use my Elvie Stride in?

Generally we recommend sitting or standing. However, depending on factors like the amount of milk in the bottle and where the pump sits on your breast, you might find you have more flexibility.

We’ve had testers unload dishwashers, change their babies and much more. As long as Elvie Stride is functioning properly you can use it in lots of different positions.

Just be aware that you should not use your pump while:

  • Lying down

  • You are driving

  • Engaging in strenuous activities

  • Performing activities with risk of harm such as operating heavy machinery

How much milk can a Cup hold?

Each Cup holds 5 oz or 150 ml of milk. If you fill a Cup while expressing, you’ll need to pause or end your session.

Each Cup has a handy fill line. It’s a good idea to use this to check how full a Cup is during a session.

How do I finish a pumping session?

When you’re ready to finish your session, you should do the following:

1. Lean forwards for two seconds and press the Play/ Pause button on the Hub to stop pumping. Leaning forwards helps milk drain from the Nipple Tunnel into the Cup

2. Turn your pump off by pressing and holding the Power button

3. Unclip your bra and use your finger to gently break the seal between the Cup and your breast

4. Remove the Cup from your bra

5. Hold upright and remove the Cap from the Cup

6. You can lay the Cup flat on a dry surface with the Nipple Tunnel facing up

7. Unplug and rotate the stopper in the Cup

8. Pour your milk into a sealed container through the side of the Pour Hole

9. Clean and sanitize the relevant parts

Please make sure that you store your milk safely.

How should I store my breast milk?

After a pumping session, pour your milk into a sealed container of your choice before you store it. While the Cups are handy, they’re not designed to store milk.

Before storage, label your container with the date and time. Immediately put it in a fridge, freezer, or cooler bag with ice packs.

When you’re storing milk, always follow the guidance of your lactation consultant or health professional.

For further information, check the advice in your country e.g. the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the US, the National Health Service in the UK.

How often do I need to clean and sanitize Elvie Stride?

You should clean and sanitize your pump before you use it for the first time.

After first use, you should:

  • Clean it after every use

  • Sanitize it once a day

How should I store Elvie Stride between sessions?

For short-term storage between sessions, you should:

  • Recharge your pump immediately after finishing your session if the Battery Light is on

  • Make sure all the components and washable parts are dry

  • Ensure your pump is stored out of direct sunlight

  • Make sure your pump is kept out of reach of children. It contains small parts, Tubes and a cable that may present a hazard
